Q - Dear Annabelle,
My boyfriend and I have been together for 10 months and, throughout these 10 months, we have everyday together non-stop. I have this thing where I need my own space, but I don't know how to let him know without hurting his feelings or upsetting him. I say this because he is very sensitive and also has a depression problem. I would like your advice on how to let him know that it is okay for us to not see each other every single day and that our relationship will still be just fine - thanks.
A - Dear Holly,
At 16, you're each coming out the the bonding with your family and beginning to be more Īseparateā in the world. This can be wonderful, (and scary), at the same time .....thus the intenseness of any relationship at about this age. Yes, if youāre uncomfortable with his level of closeness, tell him that you just feel the need for more Īalone timeā. Every one matures a differing rates. Just as he wants you to understand HIS needs, you have every right that he should understand and respect YOURS.
- Annabelle
