Q - Dear Annabelle,
I'm 16 and a junior in High School. There's a guy I like - he likes me too. We aren't "officially" going out because he's grounded and weāre not allowed together. He's aware my last boyfriend broke up with me because he said he didn't have enough time for me. Two nights ago I couldn't sleep. In my mind was only his name. Not his face or anything like that - all I could think was his name. I find myself thinking more and more about him. I think I might be in love but I've thought that so many times before and was wrong I just want to know how to know if and when I'm in love.
A - Dear Sparrow,
Well, at 16, Īloveā can certainly be on your mind all the time. LOVE comes in many forms and the Īloveā that youāre feeling right now is more likely the early excitement of an adolescent rush of feelings. Is it Īloveā? Yes, in one of itās less sophisticated and more exciting forms. Itās the Īloveā about which youāve read so very much over the years. Itās fun, relatively harmless if you donāt count the mischief it can lead a youngster into.....āmischiefā ranging from soaring exhilaration to splinter in the heart feelings at best, and unplanned pregnancy at worst. What you are speaking about is entirely age appropriate for a 16 year old. Just remember to enjoy it, donāt take it too seriously and remember to behave in ways that will not add to the current population.
Have fun!
- Annabelle
