Q - Dear Annabelle,
Do you have ny information on black American marriages, or modern day marriages among black families as opposed to 25 years ago?
A - Dear Barbara,
My experts tell me that you would do well to write to two kinds of sources:
First, the Black Studies department of a major university. (You might start with Penn and Temple. They're right in your backyard, geographically desirable, should you later want to visit the department or use the library. You might also try the Sociology department at Howard University in Virginia.);
Second, prominent black scholars. The first three who come to mind are Dr. Cornell West of the Philosophy department of Harvard College, Cambridge MA, Rev. Peter Gomes, the chaplain of Harvard, and Henry Louis Gates, Jr., a writer who specializes in black culture. He can be reached, care of The New Yorker Magazine, 20 West 43 St., N.Y., N.Y. 10036.
With all of these sources, the best way to ask would be a short note explaining exactly what you're trying to find and how you intend to use the information. Good luck!
- Annabelle
