Will 12 Year Gap Cause Problems?

Submitted by: Terri

Q - Dear Annabelle,
Please tell me the odds of a successful marriage when there is a 12 year gap between the two.

A - Dear Terri,
Uh, you donāt day how old YOU are or how old HE is...(and, yes, that does make a difference!) The older you get, say 40+, the less the difference matters. By the time you hit your mid-50ās itās hardly relevant at all if youāre both genetically sound and in good mental and physical health. If youāre in your 20ās, thatās quite different because youāre each in different Īstagesā of life. There are so many variables here that, without additional information, I canāt give you a more definiti ve answer.

Q - Dear Annabelle,
I am 35, (just turned), and he will be 23 this month...We have split and itās been 3 months now.....longest ever.....I am due to deliver our baby this March......he went back to Illinois and I have considered giving the baby up for adoption.....if I have not heard anything from him by the time the baby is due, then I will go on with my life and let another family raise the baby..what should I do, and what are the odds that I will hear from him?

A - Dear Terri,
I donāt know what the laws in your state are regarding fatherās rights or how this situation with the fellow will resolve itself, but giving the baby up for adoption is a very loving, courageous thing to do. Absent him returning with a wedding ring and wedding date, I vote with your conclusions. Babies are best raised in loving, stable, two-parent homes. I know your situation is not as you would wish.....and Iām glad to hear that you have the maturity to face reality. Youāve had a difficult lesson. (Life often gives the tests before the lessons)......sounds as if you are going to be able to pass this one with character....and character, as well as courage, which is defined as Īhaving grace under pressureā, is what counts in life. Good luck....and bless you for having the moxie to make the right decision.
