Q - Dear Annabelle,
Please give me advice on how to cope with my girl friendās drinking in bars and denying she has a drinking problem. She is also battling depression and medication.
A - Dear Victor,
AT 40, itās time you are aware that your purpose in life is NOT to go about Īrescuingā other people. You may, of course, allow them the opportunity to rescue themselves. (Thereās a difference between those two, you know).
Now, a couple of questions. #1, just what is it in YOUR life that you are avoiding by focusing on your girlfriendās problem? And, #2, who in your family of origin, (mom?), had a drinking, drug or depression problem?
Depression and substance abuse are a couple of, (sometimes), genetic Īclusterā items. YOU can do nothing for your girlfriend other than let her hit Ībottomā.........which can be dangerous..........all the way around. Mixing alcohol with anti-depressants is very dangerous. Contact Alcoholics Anonymous and go from there. They do good work.
