Is Anal Intercourse Safe?

Q - Dear Annabelle,
Hi, this is G. P. I have a great relationship with my girlfriend, and it's been that way for three years. Last night she asked to make love, and asked for anal intercourse. I'm wondering if this type of intercourse is safe for her, and if so, how to make it better.

A - Dear G.P.,

Anal intercourse would be unsafe if there is any infection present in either partner, because the delicate tissues of the rectum are so permeable. In addition to the 'usual suspects' of sexually transmitted diseases, (which, by the way, are rampant), there is now what is being called 'the shadow epidemic' of *Hepatitis 3*. This is an incredibly nasty 'hidden' infection for which people are not generally tested. Hepatitis 3 is easily spread through the exchange of bodily fluids, and causes a very painfully torturous, lingering death. It is 100% fatal.

Anal intercourse has long been a practice in many parts of the world for the purposes of birth control and is condemned by some religions for that reason. It is pleasurable to many people because of the intense collection of nerves in the area, which are stimulated during sex. (There are even magazines dedicated to the practice).

The only 'safe sex' is sex within a committed marital relationship where each partner has been tested for -- and shown to be free of -- possible diseases.

Interestingly enough, in books and films about 'aliens invading earth and destroying humans', the 'aliens' are shown as large and grotesque creatures. Well, the 'aliens' are here -- now -- but they are in the form of invisible-to-the-human-eye virus' and death-dealing bacteria. If you really care about your girlfriend, you might want to consider getting both of you tested and then pairing off, -- literally for life --, with a monogamous marital commitment.
