Q - Dear Annabelle,
I have been in a relationship with the same man for 4 years. I have a 5 year old son. Before my son was born, I could have sex in any position. Now, if I am in a certain position or get too carried away, my vagina makes a noise. I am about to end the relationship I am in and start seeing other men, but I am afraid that when the time comes and I meet a great guy and decide it is time to have sex, that this noise, (it's a 'sucking' sound), will happen and I will be embarrassed. It is as if air 'gets in', and then has to come out. I hope you know what I am talking about. As you can probably tell I am too upset to even talk about it now.
So anyway, I am scared to leave the man I am with now in case no other man will accept it. Do you know what it is and if there is anything I can do about it?
A - Dear Embarrassed,
It is possible that your vagina was stretched during your pregnancy. Your obstetrician/gynecologist can inform you of your options, and I do believe there is an operation for making your vagina a little smaller and a little tighter. (This is not an uncommon problem).
You might try practicing what are known as Kegel exercises, where you clench and unclench the muscles of your pelvic floor. You can practice this when you are urinating, (starting and stopping the flow of urine will give you the idea). Do these several times a day and see if those alone will help correct the problem without surgery.
You might want to ask yourself if your life is going to be just one man after another. Is this what you wish to teach your son?..........that his mom, and, by extension, other women, are just sexual toys, to be used until they tire of their partner and then move on? You might want to think this through a bit more and be rather a good deal more careful about whom you choose to introduce into your son's life.
Sons need fathers........in the context of a two-parent family.
