I Was Devastated.

Q - Dear Annabelle,
My boyfriend and I have been together for about two months. We have so much in common and it feels like we've known each other forever. He recently tried to break up with me because he said he didn't know if he loved me or not. I was devastated. The next day, he regretted what he had done and we got back together. Now, things are going really good. Why did he do this and will he do it again?

A - Dear Val,

Darn him! (Yes, he may do it again.........) Look, I donāt have space to go into the dynamics of it but youāre both too young, at 22, to form a lasting relationship so quickly. (He probably scared himself.) The very best relationships are those which start more slowly and build. The ones that, such as yours, are Īhotā too quickly, tend to burn themselves out. (The Īhotā partās fun....the Īburn outā part is agonizingly, excruciatingly painful). What often happens, (again because youāre too young to have knowledge and experience), is that you think youāve Īhit the jackpotā when what youāve REALLY done is meshed with a matching neurosis. Iām terribly sorry for your pain....you just rushed into things too quickly. Hug. Take a deep breath, dry your eyes.....and slow down.

- Annabelle
